Thru-body cabinets may not sound exciting, but they save space. Saving space is sweet.
Now you may be asking yourself, “But… JOMAC blog writer person, what is a thru-body cabinet? Is it a cabinet that goes through the truck body?”
A thru-body cabinet goes from one side of the truck to the other side of the truck, allowing a whole boatload of space to store tools, trinkets, and treasure.
Mostly tools though.
Typical service truck cabinet design
Normally, service truck bodies have cabinets that are flush with the wheel wall and have depth of a few feet.
Don’t get me wrong, these are great and very useful. JOMAC makes em’ double-walled and out of space ship grade aluminum so they will be light, durable, and usable in space (if your service truck ever ends up on Mars for an odd job.)
But let’s dream up a scenario where you have oddly shaped equipment that will not fit into a standard truck body cabinet.
“Oh no!” you say to yourself in your most manly man voice.
“What will I do?”
That’s when you remember, that JOMAC blog had posted something on the interwebs about thru-body cabinets and how they might save space and be the perfect solution.
Eureka!
Thru-body cabinets are magical
With thru-body cabinets, you can perform magical “rabbit out of a hat” tricks on a much larger scale.
Scenario:
You pull into a job site and hop out of your truck, rearing to get an honest days work underway.
Someone decides they need an auger for some strange reason.
“OH NO!”
The auger is back at the shop.
Then, in that moment, you raise your hand in the coolest, Fonzie-esque way possible, and say “I got it.”
“But how!” they will cry.
“I don’t see one on the bed of your utility truck.”
That’s when you open your under-bed, thru-body cabinet, produce the auger, save the day, and look like a magician, all in one movement.
Pretty magical, huh?
Seriously, thru-body cabinets are pretty cool
The thru-body cabinet will allow you to store large and oddly shaped equipment underneath the bed of your service truck body, utilizing space that would otherwise be unused.
Creating an additional layer of storage has benefits in and of their own. Obviously, more storage is better if you have more tools to store. Simple enough.
The major benefit that thru-body cabinetry can provide is having a place to store larger equipment that would otherwise not fit on the service truck body. Stuff it under the bed in that thru-body cabinet.
But… can my truck handle more storage?
Well… it depends.
If your truck body is utilizing the strength and light-weight durability of aluminum, the answer is probably yes.
Always consult with a truck body manufacturer regarding estimated payloads, GVWR of the truck, etc. before making a final call on whether you will be able to utilize under-the-body, thru-body cabinets.
