Service truck bodies have a finite lifespan.

Or do they?

Many industry leaders would argue that a service truck body is guaranteed to last a set period of time, after which, it is likely to deteriorate and lose most (if not all) functionality.

But is that true?

The short answer to this question is no.

No, it is not true.

Obviously, service truck bodies like everything else here on planet Earth will not last forever.

BUT… and this is one big but (pun anyone?)…

Service truck bodies should last a heck of a lot longer than what the industry wants you to believe.

Here’s the dirty secret:

Service Truck Manufacturers Want to Sell Service Trucks

Shocker, right?

You see, in order to keep lifetime customers, service truck body manufacturers need to constantly have a product to sell.

There have been innovations in truck body materials over the last 20-some years that have allowed for truck bodies to last a much longer time than they previously could.

At the center of these innovations is aluminum and aluminum truck body fabrication.

Aluminum provides protection and prevention against rust, and allows for a service truck body to last much longer than their antiquated, stainless steel brethren.

So why do some manufacturers still use steel as a base material for their utility truck bodies?

Because it does not last nearly as long as aluminum, and they want to sell you more service truck bodies in a shorter period of time.

The veil has been lifted!

We have written to wits end about why aluminum should be the only consideration for a service truck body at this point in human history.

The central reason for the emphasis on aluminum is that it adds years and years to the lifespan of your service truck body.

Stainless steel has propensity to deteriorate far more quickly than aluminum.

The reason for manufacturers continuing to use steel as a service truck body material can be distilled down into to motives:

  1. Steel doesn’t last nearly as long as aluminum, therefore you are more likely to buy more service truck bodies
  2. People still believe the myth that service truck bodies made out of steel are stronger than those made out of aluminum

Seems pretty simple right?

So what can you do about it?

Don’t go crazy

We are not suggesting that you send your utility truck body to the scrap yard immediately and go out to buy a brand-new aluminum utility truck body (preferably from JOMAC).

However, when the time comes to start shopping around for new utility bodies, it would be in your best interests to only consider aluminum.

Aluminum will provide significant fuel savings, less chassis wear, and comparable strength to steel, all while maintaining structural integrity and preventing rust and oxidization.

But what about that part that says service truck bodies will last decades?

Well, while we can’t speak for all aluminum utility truck body manufacturers, JOMAC provides a limited-lifetime warranty on all aluminum truck bodies.

That means decades, dude/dudette.
