By Switching To An Aluminum Service Body, You Can Haul What?!

aluminum service body hauling weight

Basic Math: Aluminum Service Trucks Weigh Less Than Stainless Steel Trucks

Anyone with a basic understanding of truck materials will know that aluminum can haul more weight than a stainless steel service body (because it's lighter and possesses the same strength!).

How much more weight are we talking? Approximately 40% more, and in some cases this percentage increases.

With the highly significant weight reduction, you are able to haul more cargo, tools, and whatever else your heart desires.

Extreme Math: Added Hauling Capacity for Aluminum Service Trucks

So…we were thinking…

What else could you hypothetically haul on your truck if you used aluminum, instead of a stainless steel service body?

There is usually 700+ lbs of difference in weight between aluminum and steel service truck bodies (aluminum clearly being the lighter option).

Here are just a few suggestions of what you can haul with the extra payload capability…

1 Miller 23 HP Bobcat Welder

A Miller 23 HP Bobcat Welder will clock in around 500 lbs. If you are a welder, you probably already have a unit on the back of your truck.

Let's pretend that welder is having issues and will not operate properly. Boom! Second, the back-up welder is already on the truck, and thanks to none other than an aluminum truck body. Look at you being all smart and prepared and stuff.

 35 Extra Tires

Perhaps you’re a tire delivery or transport professional. Well, get ready to toss 35 more tires on the back of your wheel wagon (not to be confused with Wagon Wheel).

With an average tire weight of 20 lbs, your service truck body will be able to handle 35 more circular rubber tubes by switching from steel to aluminum. Think of the possibilities! Think of how many fewer trips! Think!!!!

35 Extra Pipe Wrenches

Why would you need 35 pipe wrenches? Hell if I know. What I do know is that you can put 35 more of them on an aluminum service truck body as opposed to a steel one.

This will come in handy if you end up on a job site where there happens to be 34 other contractors who all need a pipe wrench, all at the exact same time.

Seems crazy, but we’ve seen it happen. Once. It has happened one time. In a nightmare…

Moving on…

400,000 More Nails

Nails and Hammer

In case you have to nail a lot of things down, you can put 400,000 more on your service body if you switch to aluminum. You can also quit your job if you have to use 400,000 nails on one job site.

15,000 AA Batteries

 Set of Energizer Batteries

I stockpile batteries like the world is about to end. Not sure if my stash is up to 15,000 quite yet, but it might be approaching it.

If you are like me and buy batteries in bulk for fear of never having access to electricity again, you can place 15,000 more AA batteries on an aluminum service truck body as opposed to a steel one.

In the event of a cataclysmic shut down of the entire power grid, this capability could come in handy.

 2 Giant Panda Bears

So here’s the situation… You are at a job site, and out of nowhere, you are attacked by two giant panda bears.Luckily, you were a high school wrestling champion and have the ability to beat the pandas into submission.

Equally as lucky, you happen to have two bamboo cages to return the pandas to. You have no clue how the bamboo cages got there, and neither do I. Regardless, the pandas are no longer a threat and are now napping in their bamboo cages.

Each cage weighs roughly 50 lbs. Each giant panda weighs 300 lbs. You run over to your knuckle boom crane and conveniently lift both cages onto the bed of your service truck and proceed to strap them down.

Thank God for that extra 700lbs of payload, and now the giant pandas can be returned safely to the zoo. All because you made a smart decision and increased your payload by investing in an aluminum service truck body. You rock!
